Reader Paul K. sent us a query today about how to go about getting each of the champion dungeon tabards available at level 80, and since I’m about to hit level 80 (hopefully will be doing it tonight), I figured I’d do the work so the rest of you don’t have to. Wearing these WOW Dungeon reputation tabards will give you faction reputation for whatever tabard you’re wearing in the endgame 5mans, so instead of running Steam Vaults over and over and over for Cenarion Expedition rep (oh man am I tired of that grind), you can just put on one of these, and then run whatever instances you want.

There are currently four factions that you can champion in the game, and all of the tabards for each are available at Friendly. So you’ll need at least friendly with all of the factions — Wyrmrest Accord, Knights of the Ebon Blade, Kirin Tor, and the Argent Crusade — before you go around to pick them all up. Getting there isn’t hard at all — if you’ve leveled by questing, you should have built up the necessary reputation (the one exception in my case is the Knights of the Ebon Blade — I’m neutral right now, but I haven’t really done any questing in Icecrown yet at all).

Wyrmrest Accord
This is very much a Dragonblight faction — doing the Wrathgate quests (which you should have done anyway, they’re aweseome) and any other quests you find in the big Dragonblight zone should get you up to Friendly. Tabard of the Wyrmrest Accord is available from their Quartermaster in Wyrmrest Temple, Cielstrasza, who totally is a dragon, for 1g at Friendly.

Knights of the Ebon Blade
Dutchess Mynx sells this tabard for 1g at Friendly, but in order to have access to her, you first need to complete the Shadow Vault quests in Icecrown. The chain starts off with “It’s All Fun and Games,” and running it to finish will not only let you see some great phasing action in one of the last instances in the game so far, but probably rep you right up to Friendly anyway.

Argent Crusade
Unfortunately, the old Tabard of the Argent Dawn that we got from the world event doesn’t work in this case. You need to upgrade to the Tabard of the Argent Crusade, available from their quartermaster in Icecrown. You’ll find him at the Argent Vanguard camp to the southeast.

Kirin Tor
This is the faction of the old mages in Dalaran — if you need rep to get to Friendly, you can find them scattered around the world, or you can do Dalaran dailies, including the normal Dungeon daily quests. You can find the quartermaster in the city’s Violet Citadel, and he’ll sell you the tabard for 1g when you’ve got the rep for it.

There you go — you can run around and get one or all of them, and then whenever you don one of the tabards, you’ll get a buff that lets you gain reputation for the faction of your choice when running the endgame and heroic instances. It’s probably a good guess that future patches will add in new factions to champion, so as soon as you hit 80, it’s probably a good idea to run around and grab the WOW Dungeon reputation tabards so you have them whenever you head off to an instance.

I’ve never been a fan of PvP. I have neither the twitch skills nor the patience to put up with being repeatedly ganked. I tried Battlegrounds and Arena, even some Burning Crusade world PvP, but the result is always the same: after getting a free ticket back to the graveyard courtesy of some Rogue that comes out of nowhere or a Warlock with their mez/fear/dot triple whammy I was done. Then came WOW Lake Wintergrasp.

I admit that what first drew me there was greed. I heard that it was the richest source of mining nodes for the faction that controls it (as well as Eternal drops.) I was only level 73 when I first zoned in and knew I was going to get pwned by all the level 80s running amok, but to my surprise there turns out to be a feature that levels the playing field: siege vehicles.

Hoping into a catapult or manning a tower cannon eliminates the level difference between you and your opponent. In no time, I was laying waste to the enemy and racking up the Honor Points. I was suddenly having so much fun that I forgot to look for mining nodes (which is good, since the roaming mobs in the zone are level 80.)

Now, when I log on, the first thing I do is check how long until the next Wintergrasp battle starts (two and a half hours after the last one ends). For those who haven’t tried any kind of WoW PvP I recommend trying your hand at piloting a Demolisher in Lake Wintergrasp WOW at least once. You may find yourself enjoying the game in a whole new way.

WOW Storm Peaks is the penultimate zone in Northrend, and a welcome return to navigational complexity. As I mentioned in my last post on Sholazar, it is also my favorite zone in Northrend; I really enjoy all the Titan stuff as well as the background on the dwarves we get in the Alliance quests. The Sons of Hodir have the dubious honor of being probably the most difficult essential faction to rep up with, but that’s going to get much easier in 3.0.8 when Relics of Ulduar become a rep turn-in. Anyway, I’d better get on with the FPs; there are quite a few of them.

Neutral

1. K3 (41,83), run by the goblins, is the entry point to WOW Storm Peaks (and a pun off a famous mountain). I only wish we could ride on rockets all the time out of this one.
2. Dun Niffelem (63,61) is a heavily phased Frost Giant town, headquarters of the Sons of Hodir. You will not be able to go here without being attacked before doing some significant questing (but don’t worry, they’re very enjoyable quests).
3. Bouldercrag Refuge, in the northwest of the zone, has a flight master at 31,36.
4. There’s also a small cluster of NPCs up near the Ulduar instances, including a flight master (45,28), a repairer, and a reagent vendor. This is very handy for those Halls of Stone and Halls of Lightning runs (both of which are pretty nasty on heroic, in my opinion, especially the Tribunal and Loken). It will become even more essential in patch 3.1, when the Ulduar raid is due to be added.

Alliance

5. Frosthold (30,74) is the hub for some essential questing; I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s a very dwarf-heavy town. It’s also your opportunity to pick up aboot flask for the low price of 10 relics before it gets raised to 250 in 3.0.8.

Horde

• 5. Grom’arsh Crash Site is situated in the north center of WOW Storm Peaks;its flight master is at 36,49.
• 6. Camp Tunka’lo, filled with those nifty Taunka, is in eastern Storm Peaks. You can catch a flight out of it at 66,51. There’s an interesting idea that the flight master, Hyeyoung Parker, is named after a Korean actress; it is certainly an unusual name for WoW.So much is today.More wow online strategy here.
